What Is Grounded? Survival in a Giant Backyard

Imagine the lawn behind your house, the one you cross without a second look. Now shrink yourself to the size of an ant and try crossing it again. That is Grounded, and it is the world every design in our store comes from.

What kind of game is Grounded?

Grounded is a survival game you can play solo or in co-op with up to four players. It was developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios. You scavenge, craft tools and weapons, build a base and try to stay alive in a backyard where every blade of grass is a tree.

Who is stuck in the backyard?

Four teenagers, shrunk to insect size after a science experiment. Their names are Max, Willow, Pete and Hoops, and none of them asked for this. To get back to normal size they have to work out what happened, with a little help from BURG.L, a robot assistant waiting in the lab.

What is out there?

Bugs. Ants march in lines, bees patrol the flowers, and spiders sit at the top of the food chain. In the Hedge waits the Broodmother, a spider boss that arrived with the Shroom and Doom update in 2021.

When did it come out?

• 28 July 2020: early access on Windows and Xbox One.
• 27 September 2022: the full 1.0 release.
• 16 April 2024: Switch, PS4 and PS5.
• 29 July 2025: Grounded 2 entered early access.

Why a store for it?

Because the backyard is a great place for designs: chunky lettering in grass and dirt, bright colours, and a sense of humour about being very small in a very big world. Our merch keeps that mood, from the GROUNDED wordmark to the graphics the teens wear themselves.
